Johnny Cash’s son helps turn his father’s demos into new album

Johnny Cash’s New Album ‘Songwriter’ Will Be Released June 28

More than two decades after his death, Johnny Cash will have a new album released. Songwriter arrives on June 28, via Universal Music, with 11 tracks recorded by the musician in 1993. Only two of these original compositions were previously released: “Drive On” and “Like a Soldier”, which appear on the first album of Cash made by Rick Rubin, American Recordings (1994).

The recordings for the upcoming project, however, are just demos. Therefore, the artist’s son, John CarterCashgathered musicians at his father’s famous cabin in Hendersonville, Tennessee, to create backing tracks. Marty Stuart, Peter Abbott, Dave Roe, Vince Gill It is Dan Auerbach are among the names invited. David “Fergie” Ferguson was named as co-producer. Present in the original audios of “I Love You Tonite and “Like a Soldier”, Waylon Jennings also appears on the album.

The first track of Songwriter“Well Alright”, arrived on streaming platforms this Tuesday, the 23rd.
