The alternative music marathon highlights new generations and veterans of gothic rock in recent recordings
The Modern playlist brings new musical trends in 50 recent clips from new generation and alternative pop/rock icons. This time the list starts from the darkest corners of YouTube, on a journey through the return of the gothic sound. The focus is on guitar, bass and drum groups and not on the synthesized and danceable version of darkwave. Artists inspired by Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus (which gets a cover in the selection). Just coincidentally, May also recorded new clips of Peter Murphy and David J, vocals and bass of Bauhaus, who appear represented in the monthly collection.
Among the veterans there is also Bernard Butler, former guitarist of Suede, in a new solo recording, which closes the playlist.
The marathon through the YouTube underground also takes a look at the wild side of shoegazer guitar squeals, the rage of punk rock, the post-punk syncopation, the fast-paced dancing of ska and revivalist garage rock.
As always, videos are organized by sound affinity in a playlist – to watch on Smart TV, look for Cast in Chrome’s Settings tab or More Tools/Stream etc. on Edge -, with the aim of inserting a sequence that enhances the impression of video/mixtape recording. Try listening without skipping tracks on the Premium version of YouTube (without ad breaks). Or just press play and forget it.
