Event canceled artist presentation due to problematic statements that do not align with ‘values and principles’
Wehoo Festival announced Bahian rapper Duquesa as Oruam’s replacement on October 12 in Recife, Pernambuco. The event canceled the performance of the artist, son of drug dealer Marcinho VP, due to problematic statements that are not in line with the organizers’ “values and principles”.
Duquesa is known in the artistic world for her versatility and her compositions that are not limited to the rap genre. The artist also brings representation to the festival with intimate narratives of herself as a Black, Northeastern woman.
In 2023, Duquesa released her debut album, “Taurus,” which reached more than 10 million streams on Spotify and received more than 500 thousand monthly listeners. With these numbers she has achieved a prominent position in the genre. This year she will also participate in the Lobofest and Afropunk festivals.
The festival will also host performances by Jão, Falcão, Rachel Reis, Chico César with the participation of Barro, TZ da Coronel, The Wailers, Lamparina, Banda Uó, Francisco el Hombre, Barromeo, Black Alien, Gabe, Eli Wasa, D- Nox , Antdot, Valentina Luz and Madeja, as well as O Grande Encontro (Alceu Valença, Elba Ramalho and Geraldo Azevedo).
Oruam show
Oruam’s presentation was canceled by Wehoo organizers a few days after it encouraged a series of attacks on Luana Piovani’s profile, following an argument with Neymar for defending the privatization of Brazilian beaches.
After the repercussions, Neymar did not abandon his partner in this “difficult” moment and showed support for Oruam. “My brother was hired for the show I’m going to do (laughs). We’re together,” wrote the Brazilian player on X (formerly Twitter).
The rapper also joked about the situation on social media: “They canceled my show at a festival because they said I was defending Neymar. He hired me. Thank you, Neymar!”, replied the artist, with heart emojis. And, just like he did against Luana, he also encouraged attacks on the profile of the Wehoo Festival.
