Recorded the day before, the singer’s participation in the program “La Noite” was broadcast at the time of the announcement of his death.
Singer Chrystian, known for his career in country music together with his brother Ralf, recorded his participation in the program “The Noite”, hosted by Danilo Gentili on SBT, on Tuesday (6/18), the day before his death. The interview, which also included a musical performance, was broadcast on Wednesday evening (6/19), coinciding with the announcement of his death in Sao Paulo. Chrystian, who suffered from polycystic kidney disease, died at the age of 67 from septic shock due to pneumonia, aggravated by kidney problems.
Last interview
In the interview Chrystian celebrated his 60 years of career and talked about the recording of the DVD “60 Anos de Estrada”. Together with him were the singers Sérgio Reis and Renato Teixeira, who also participate in the DVD. In addition to the career milestone, Chrystian also mentioned his kidney problem, saying that he had a transplant initially scheduled for March, which was ultimately postponed until October due to health complications.
“I was planning to do it in March, but Dr. Medina, from the Hospital do Rim, said ‘Chrystian, here’s the thing, we need to do a test on your heart.’ Because of my family history, my father had six heart attacks, so he [o médico] he said: ‘it’s better to see your heart because, suddenly, during the surgery you go crazy and I find myself with a kidney in my hand with nothing to do’. Then I had a catheterization and didn’t know I had a coronary artery problem and I had two stents put in. For treatment you need to take a lot of heparin [anticoagulante]. The transplant was scheduled for October because, with heparin, if I had surgery now it could cause a hemorrhage”, explained the singer.
Chrystian also revealed that the kidney donor would be his wife, Key Vieira.
Reaction to death
Danilo Gentili commented on social media on the coincidence of the interview which aired at the same time as the announcement of the singer’s death: “Chrystian gave us the honor of choosing ‘The Noite’ to celebrate 60 years of career together with his dear friends Sérgio Reis and Renato Teixeira We had so much fun! It was an immense joy to literally be by his side as he did for the last time what he loved to do: tell stories, laugh at jokes and sing,” Gentili wrote.
The presenter also highlighted the artist’s generosity and talent: “I have a lot of affection for Chrystian. It has always been a joy to meet him in Serra da Cantareira and I have done so a few times. He has always been very kind and friendly. He leaves great work for everyone and great memories for me”, he concluded.
