She liked my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I’ve already worn black lipstick. You create these parallels and think, ‘What could I have been.’ But I couldn’t, because we were completely different people.

Envy of a hit

Charli XCX she also revealed how she was “super jealous” of one of the biggest hits of her career Lord.

During an interview with Rolling Stone USA, Charlie commented on the “mental chaos” of being a woman in the music industry, as well as the taboo of envy among women.

“Being jealous is somehow wrongly equated with not supporting women or not being a girl, which is not true. I think you can be jealous and still be a good person who stands up for other women,” she said. “Envy just isn’t a very sexy feeling, or a really sexy trait, is it?”

Right away, Charli XCX was asked which favorite singer she was most envious of. In response, she pointed to the success of Lord.

I didn’t make songs that sounded like ‘Royals.’
