The singer celebrates collaboration with the R&B icons in a new song with the same title as the classic released by the duo in 1998
Ariana Grande has released the remix of her new single, “The Boy Is Mine,” featuring the legendary Brandy and Monica, 26 years after the singers topped the charts with the original song of the same name. The new track is not a cover, but a new song from Ariana’s album “Eternal Sunshine”. However, she clarified the reference by inviting the two to make a small appearance in the song’s official music video.
The Christian Breslauer-directed music video was released earlier this month and also featured a cameo from actor Penn Badgley (“You”). The song is taken from her album “Eternal Sunshine,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking Ariana’s sixth album to reach that position.
In the remix, Brandy and Monica reunite the two recordings separated by a quarter of a century by singing the current verses and singing new phrases, which are not in Ariana’s original song nor in the single that spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the charts. in 1998 – and earned him a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. The additive works smoothly on the melody of Ariana’s song, making it even better than the track “Eternal Sunshine.”
Emotional statements
Ariana Grande expressed her gratitude for the collaboration: “I… can’t believe this is real (I don’t know if I will, even long after it comes out). Not just for joining me in this moment , but for your generosity, your kindness and the countless ways you have inspired me.”
