Coldplay release video with puppet band

Coldplay’s new song is played by an alien puppet band, “Biutyful” video reveals.

The video directed by Mat Whitecross (partner of Coldplay since 2008) shows several muppet artists trying – and failing – to be successful as musicians in a world where humans see them as beats. But when they meet in a “weird” bar, they immediately hook up and form a band. Not just any band, but The Weirdos, the most popular band on the planet, according to the video.

“Biutyful” is taken from Coldplay’s latest album, “Music of the Spheres” from 2021. But in the clip, the band appears only briefly, in the audience at the Weirdos concert. Also, the real star of the recording is the (very) out of tune puppet Angel Moon, which leaves Chris Martin relegated to the second voice in small parts of the duet.

The idea for the clip was Martin himself and his girlfriend, actress Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Gray”). And in addition to starring in the video, Angel Moon is also taking part in the band’s current tour, where he sings the song live.

The puppets were created by the celebrated Creature Shop company, owned by Jim Henson (the late father of the classic Muppets).
