The final report on the cause of the artist’s death does not suggest any charges
The Civil Police of São Paulo has concluded the investigation that sought to clarify the cause of death of Gal Costa (1945-2022). The investigation had been ongoing since May at the 15 DP, in Itaim Bibi, and was opened at the request of the Court of Justice.
Initially, the death certificate indicated that the singer had died of an acute myocardial infarction. The document also described a malignant neoplasm (cancer) of the head and neck, but the information was released months after his death.
Furthermore, the defense of Gabriel, the artist’s son, clarified that the body had not been subjected to an autopsy. In April, the São Paulo court had even denied the request to exhume the remains because it did not have the authority to analyze the case, referring the investigative process to the police.
On Monday (7/1) the final report was presented, without any charges. The document will now be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which can request the case to be closed or the investigation to be closed. In case of doubt, the MP can also refer the investigation to the competent police station.
