Himself (2024) is the first album by Yago Oproprio. The rapper from São Paulo, raised in Cohab II, East Zone of São Paulo, joined forces with the producer Patrick Sid to put the experiences and experiences that cross his path into a 10-track album.

In conversation with Rolling Stone Brazilthe artist explains that he always released singles until the release of the EP Tenant (2023). “I always told myself that when I was going to launch a more complex project, I needed to have a group of people listening to me, and that’s what happened.”
I released the EP and the reverberation was very good. I was very happy with the work. It was a preview of what was to come, which would be the album.
Fans of Yago They had been asking for an album for some time, but he understands how the work came about at the right time. Another demand from his fans was songs just for him – the rapper is known for his collaborations with other artists.

“I’m talking about myself, so there’s no point in putting someone else to talk about me,” says the rapper. He, however, doesn’t see himself as a reference for his own work. “I just am. I take the experiences that my eyes see and bring poetry, melody to synthesize them.”
The inspiration for the lyrics is linked to a rhythm. It could be a beat, or the cadence of a guitar. The composer says that he “generally needs a terrain.” On his debut album, he brought boombap as a genre that ties the songs together, joining other genres and references.
The idea came from his taste and Patrick by the rhythm. “There’s also a point of trying to do this and burst the bubble, contribute to the movement, with a new crop of music, with less autotune and more voice, more feeling.”
Yagohowever, does not stick to musical genres and says that right after finishing the album he composed a samba. “I make music. This album is a boombap, it has some R&B in there, afrobeat and some funk, but mostly boombap.”
The artist’s references come from all over, but generally from older songs. And, despite his passion for music, he does not consider himself a scholar on the subject. His relationship with art is much more affectionate.
