In posts made on Instagram stories, Hayley Williams complained that many music fans only call numbers
Iconic lead singer of the American rock band Paramore, Hayley Williams gave his opinion on the fights between pop fans that happen on the internet, in which admirers do not accept the success and talent of other artists, and defined this situation as “f***ing annoying.”
In a post made on Instagram stories after the band opened another show for Taylor Swift at The Eras Tourthe singer explained how she noticed that artists’ fan bases are increasingly eager to compare their favorite musicians, especially those involved in pop.
In many of the discussions, the main arguments are based on streaming numbers, units sold and chart placements. “Something I’ve been thinking about a lot, and why I don’t really love it… especially in the music world, whether it’s girl pop or any scene, really, people only care about numbers now, and statistics,” she said (via Stereogum).
“This is so ridiculous. It’s a lot of fun, don’t get me wrong. It’s sick. We had a number one album and we outsold this album and that album, yeah. This s*** is great… but I just remember a time when this wasn’t such a big deal, and this wasn’t a catch-22 for a constant war type situation,” he continued. Hayley Williams
Anyway, I just think it’s so f***ing annoying. My side of the internet, which is basically not the internet, I can only support all the pop girls. Maybe it’s a privilege because I’m not a pop girl, but I think everyone should just calm down and let people make really good music and stuff… I’m over it.
In another post, Williams shared an animated turtle and wrote on top: “Witnessing ‘fan wars’ makes me so happy because more isn’t really in the pop world. I can only enjoy the good things that came out this year and I’m sorry some of you can’t, that must be hard, damn.”
