Blink-182’s Travis Barker Overcomes Fear of Flying After Crash

Travis Barkerdrummer of Flash-182has decided to auction off the boarding pass from her recent trip to Australia, marking a personal milestone after overcoming her fear of flying.

This fear began in 2008, when Barker survived a tragic plane crash that killed four people, including the pilots and two close friends, Charles ‘Che’ Still and Chris Baker. Barker suffered third-degree burns over two-thirds of his body, spending three months in the hospital and undergoing 26 surgeries. The only other survivor, DJ AM, died a year later of a drug overdose.

After the crash, Barker avoided flying for 13 years, opting to travel by boat whenever possible. However, in 2021, he broke that barrier by boarding a flight to Cabo, Mexico, for the first time since the crash.

According to NME, the drummer listed the boarding pass for $8,000 on auction site Trophy, with part of the proceeds going to the charity Lost But Not Forgotten, which supports teenagers in crisis. The card, from Qantas, features a cross designed by Barker and the phrase: “I know I have angels watching over me”. He was sitting in row 7.

The auction site describes the item as “a true one of a kind piece for the ultimate Travis Barker collector”. According to the description, the boarding pass is more than just an object; it is a personal relic of the musician, complete with a handwritten note and a cross design.

Barker attributed his passing to “power of love”, highlighting the support of his wife, Kourtney Kardashian, as instrumental in helping him get back to flying, which has also impacted his children. “Kourt did it so I could fly, my kids can fly now. She healed us,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

Despite the victory, Barker admitted he still felt very stressed during the flight. “Every time I fly it’s like I lose a piece of my life. The stress and anxiety it causes are unbearable.“, he confessed. He added that the trauma of the past still affects him, but he is determined not to let it control his future.

Currently, the Flash-182 is touring North America, with new production elements including a 360-degree stage setup. The tour continues through August 15.
