The shots were fired by an off-duty military police officer, who was arrested after the incident.
A A 29-year-old man was shot dead during a concert of the singer Laurana Prado at the Mari´lia Rodeo Music, a music festival that will be held in the city of Mari´lia, in the hinterland of São Paulo, in the early hours of this Saturday 31st.
According to the organizers of the event, the shots were fired by military police officer Moroni Siqueira Rosa “in an isolated act.” Private security intervened immediately afterward, disarming the man.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo (SSP-SP), the victim, whose name has not been released, was treated at the city’s Clínicas hospital but did not survive. Another man suffered minor injuries.
The situation apparently erupted due to a fight. The assailant was arrested, his weapon was seized and the case was registered as homicide and negligent bodily harm at the Marília Sectional Police Station.
The company Mega Eventos, which organizes the rodeo, claims that there was no breach of private security, since the killer was a military police officer and “the legislation allows security agents to participate armed in this type of event.”
Lauana took to social media to comment on what happened on Saturday afternoon, calling the situation a “regrettable episode.” “In the middle of the show, everything was going well and we were surprised by a person carrying a firearm, who, unfortunately, hit an individual, killed one person and injured another,” the singer said.
“We leave home with the intention of bringing joy and fun and, unfortunately, we were surprised by this. I just wanted to leave my position here because I have received a lot of messages and say that everything is fine for me and my team, but unfortunately this happened, which is very sad,” he added.
The Rodeos Parliamentary Front lamented the incident and said that “a young man lost his life for extremely trivial reasons.”
“It saddens us even more that this act was committed by a police officer who was active during his off-duty hours, but who, during a festive event, used his weapon against another young man, in the middle of the crowd, in a needless and irrelevant action, an unacceptable act of violence,” the statement reads.
