Fans are eagerly awaiting a possible joint release, with signs pointing to a weekend show
A video posted by the NFL’s official Instagram account has fueled rumors of a possible collaboration between Anitta and The Weeknd. The video covers the league’s official game, which takes place over the weekend in Sao Paulo, and is animated by a snippet of new funk music. The publication also credits The Weeknd in the post and mentions a Thursday (5/9) date, where nothing is officially scheduled.
The post follows the discovery of a song registration titled “São Paulo” at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, which listed the names of Larissa de Macedo Machado and Abel Tesfaye, aka Anitta and The Weeknd, respectively, as the authors. However, the citation was removed from the platform a few days later.
Mysterious Social Media Interactions
While neither artist has confirmed the partnership, Anitta kept quiet when asked about the collaboration with the Canadian singer during a recent interview in Portuguese.
However, this Tuesday (8/3), the two have fueled expectations, after The Weeknd posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “You can’t see it, but we’re here.” In the image, which is not visible in Brazil due to the judicial blocking of X/Twitter, there is a woman on a motorcycle, with the word “São Paulo” written on her shorts. But what attracted the most attention was the fact that Anitta reacted to the publication with hearts and a Brazilian flag.
Possible launch during visit to Brazil
With The Weeknd performing at Estádio do Morumbi on Saturday (7/9) and Anitta taking part in the NFL halftime show at Arena Corinthians on Friday (6/9), the proximity of events creates a perfect scenario for a surprise exit. To complete the scenario, the NFL has hinted that something is going to happen on Thursday.
