With expensive snacks and long lines, fans prefer to bring their own food on metal days at Rock in Rio

Saving time and money motivated the audience to arrive at the festival prepared.

Common plain burger for R$30 and one special bucket of popcorn for R$60a good part of the public decided to bring food from home to save on the third day of the festival Rock in Rio 2024. Before the first attraction this Sunday, 18th, it was not difficult to see countless fans sitting on the lawn of Cidade do Rock eating snacks, bread and other snacks in plastic bags from the market.

The one who chose to ensure what to eat at home was Caio Catena, 36. The boy, who had gone to the festival accompanied by a group of friends, was waiting sitting near the Mundo stage with the bags.

“I arrived here at the time the gates opened. [às 14 horas] and I waited another hour to get in, because of the queue,” he told Terra.

Caio says the idea of bringing a snack goes beyond saving money. He also wants to save time in long lines at food outlets: “Because of the price and the lines, right? I think some things are reasonably priced, but the lines, at times, are really bad,” he explained.

At midnight, Avenged Sevenfold, the band that will close the last night of the first weekend of Rock in Rio, should enter the stage of Mundo. Until then, Caio was separating bread, cold cuts and bottles of water.

“I made briochinhos with cheese and ham and brought the empty plastic bottle to fill. For now I’m calm. I’ll see how hungry I am until the end of the day,” he said. Allowing plastic bottles up to 500 ml with lids is a first for Rock in Rio, as are the hydration points that provide free cold water to the public.

The idea of bringing lunch from home is not new and the boy is already experienced in the practice. In the 2013 edition he remembers having brought even more options: “At the time I also brought food. But I immediately took a whole baguette! (laughs)”, he said.

Despite all the preparation, Caio admits he isn’t particularly excited about tonight’s shows. “I came more for the event than to watch a specific band. In fact, for me, Avenged Sevenfold is a very weak band to close the festival,” he said.

On the night of this Sunday, the 15th, Avenged Sevenfold head to Palco Mundo to close the first weekend of shows at Cidade do Rock. Fans return to the festival from Thursday the 19th.
