Tavinho had to undergo three heart bypass grafts after suffering a heart attack in September this year. The composer leaves behind his wife Eliana Britto, three children and four grandchildren. In a statement, lawyer Elvis Paes, one of the poet’s sons, spoke on behalf of the family.
“Tavinho Paes enjoyed and lived intensely, he left behind great works, which are now perpetuated. The family is grateful for the affection of all his friends and hopes that everyone will transform the moment of sadness into poetry.”

Luiz Octávio Paes de Oliveira was born and lived in Rio de Janeiro, and graduated in Economics (1973-1976) and Journalism (1976-1977) from PUC-Rio. But his career was marked by his talent as a poet, composer, writer, screenwriter and visual artist.
Tavinho began his career as a musical lyricist in the 1980s, when his songs were recorded by great performers such as Lobão, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Marisa Monte, Gilberto Gil, Ney Matogrosso, Marina Lima, Xuxa Meneghel, Pepeu Gomes and Rita Lee. .
In that decade he also began a career as editor of the newspaper “O Pasquim” and was one of the founders of the record label Indie Records. Among his compositions, he had many other national hits, such as “She-Ra”, “Linda Demais”, “Vida Bandida” and “Sexy Yemanjá”.
