English band bet on a cover of a rock classic that wasn’t even included in the printed setlist
THE Keane last week, he carried out a three-date tour of Brazil. Announced in April, the series of presentations covered the cities of Curitiba (Teatro Positivo, on the 5th), Rio de Janeiro (Vivo Rio, on Thursday, 7th) and São Paulo (Espaço Unimed, on Saturday, 9th).
In the final two performances, the audience was taken by surprise by a song that wasn’t even on the printed setlist. And it was a cover: “Under Pressure”originally released as a single by queen and David Bowie and later included in the album HotSpace (1982), from the classic group of Freddie Mercury and company.
Still in 2007, the Keane re-recorded “Under Pressure” as B-side of the single “The Night Sky”. At the time, the compact was made available on a charitable basis to assist the NGO War Childwhich supports needy children in war areas. However, until last September, the song was not performed live by Tom Chaplin (voice), Tim Rice-Oxley (piano), Jesse Quin (low) and Richard Hughes (drums) a decade ago.
On September 23rd and 26th, the classic returned to the repertoire for shows in the American cities of Boston and Washington DC, respectively. In other subsequent commitments, including Curitiba, he was not present. In Rio and São Paulo, it was remembered again.
In both cases, the idea was to end the show only with “Bedshaped”already in the encore. However, when the track was announced as the last, the public reacted as if they wanted something more. Then, the quartet got together briefly and said they would play “Under Pressure”to the delight of fans.
Check out the videos below, recorded in both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
