The Smashing Pumpkins frontman and the Hole singer dated in 1990; ‘Violet’ was reportedly written by Love for Corgan
Billy Corgan is trying to secure a souvenir from a past relationship. He announced this Sunday, the 17th, that he entered the competition to guarantee the lyrics for “Violet”, a track from Holehandwritten by Courtney Lovehis ex-girlfriend.
The document will be auctioned by After Ellis Park Wildlife Sanctuary, an organization linked to animal protection. All money will go towards the care and rescue of animals on the island of Sumatra. The institution was founded by Warren Ellisknown for the band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
“Hello, friends. I have a very special announcement. Check this out. I just bought my ticket for the Ellis Park Wildlife Sanctuary auction, which is auctioning off the lyrics to ‘Violet’, written by Courtney Love,” said the singer of Smashing Pumpkins in a video published on Instagram.
“Now, this got a lot of attention in the media this week, so I bought my ticket because I would like to win this lyric. I think it’s about a guy I know a little bit and I’d love to put that on my wall”, joked the musician, referring to himself.
“Anyway, support if you want, elispark.org. And you can also participate in the auction, but you need to buy a ticket. I bought three tickets for $20, so I’m in to win.”

Corgan even shared a screenshot on Instagram story showing statement of Love to the NME in which she explained the meaning of the song: “It’s not just about Billy Corganas many might assume; it’s about sitting on the fire escape of his apartment, drinking cheap wine and popping Vicodin (ah, to be young!) as the Chicago sun sets, leaving behind a jewel-studded amethyst sky.”
The singer wrote about the image: “She forgot to mention that I wrote one of the most moving verses contained there. But I will always love this song. I love you, court”.
About ‘Violet’
“Violet” was written by Love and the guitarist Eric Erlandsonwith whom she founded the Hole. The song is the first from the band’s second studio album, Live Through This (1994), but it was composed three years earlier, during the tour for their debut album, Pretty On The Inside (1991).
Love and Corgan They dated in 1990. The singer found the pages in an old notebook that spent years in police possession in a stolen closet.
