The legendary punk band confirmed itself as an attraction at the Sao Paulo festival together with Green Day, Iggy Pop and Pitty
When the organization of The city announced the Sex guns As one of the attractions of the festival in 2025, many people have wondered: what do you mean? The band founded – and ended – in the 1970s also held occasional meetings in 1996, 2002 to 2003 and 2007 to 2008, but the singer John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) has been at odds with his other colleagues for a long time.
However, they decided to return. Without Lydon, of course. The guitarist Steve Jonesthe drummer Paul Cook and the bass player Glen Matlock (original member who was replaced in the 1970s by Sid Vicious) reunited with the singer Frank Carterfrom the project Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes.
Initially it would have been a special occasion, with two shows having a charitable purpose: to raise funds to maintain the Bush Hallan iconic event venue in London hit hard by the post-pandemic situation. They also planned an extra presentation. They all occurred in August.
However, there was a feeling of “I want more”. Then, the quartet confirmed another sequence of shows, visiting Italy, Scotland and, again, England, between August and September.
In an interview with RockonteursSteve Jones has confirmed that the Sex Pistols will continue with Frank Carter replacing John Lydon. And he added that the group would leave in 2025: something that turned out to be true with the confirmation of The Town.
“This is different. It’s a different vibe. It’s like night and day. He (Frank) doesn’t try to be John. It’s just fun. Plus, we’re playing it how it should be played. And you got this crazy that jumps all over the place. It brings a great element to the fun part of the film. We’re going on a trip next year.
How are the shows?
Since the Sex Pistols’ catalog is very short (only one album has been released so far), Never mind the bullshit, here are the Sex Pistolsin 1977 —, all the songs of the opera are played. Plus there’s plenty of space for “Satellite” (B-side of the single “Holidays in the sun”), “Stupid thing” (included in the film’s soundtrack The Rock’n’Roll Scam) and/or cover of “No Fun” (Stooges) and “My Way” (Frank Sinatrainfamous Sid Vicious cover).
Sex Pistols in Brazil
The Sex Pistols’ only visit to Brazil took place in 1996. On that occasion, the band – with John Lydon, of course – performed at the festival Closeup of the planetwith two dates in Sao Paulo and one in Rio de Janeiro. The tour marked the first reunion of the previously disbanded group in 1978. They then performed shows in 2002 and 2003 and finally from 2007 to 2008.
