Singer is listed for a free performance on Copacabana Beach; remember your story with the Brazilian public
Lady Gaga marked Brazilian pop culture in 2017 when he canceled his performance at Rock in Rio at the last minute, leaving a sentence that went viral: “Brazil, I’m Devastated”in translation). Now, seven years after the episode, there are signs that the singer may return to Brazil in a free megashow, scheduled to take place on Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro.
Show in Copacabana: what we know so far
According to the columnist Laura Jardimfrom the newspaper The GlobeLady Gaga would be in advanced negotiations to perform a free performance in Copacabana on the day May 3, 2025. The date was strategically chosen to coincide with the Labor Day long holiday, as part of the “Celebration May” project, an initiative by the Rio de Janeiro city council to bring great international artists to the city annually.
The event was being organized by the production company Bonus Track, which was also responsible for the megashow Madonna in Copacabana in 2024. The contract, however, is still being finalized, due to a confidentiality agreement (NDA), and official confirmation should only occur in January 2025.
If the show is confirmed, it will be Lady Gaga’s second performance in Brazil, following her tour. Born This Way Ball in 2012.
The cancellation of Rock in Rio 2017
In 2017, Lady Gaga was one of the most anticipated attractions at Rock in Rio. However, the singer canceled her performance just hours before the show, citing health problems related to fibromyalgia. The condition, which causes chronic pain, fatigue and other debilitating symptoms, has prevented the artist from traveling.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Gaga stated:
Brazil, I’m devastated. I’m not well enough to go to Rock in Rio. I would do anything for you, but I need to take care of my body now.

In October 2024, Gaga rekindled the hope of her Brazilian fans by stating, in an interview with the program Fantasticwho wants to return to Brazil to perform and share his new music.
