Pink Floyd’s eternal guitarist has been very active in 2024: he released a new album and performed a series of shows to promote it
“So it’s Christmas, and what did you do?”. If David Gilmour listen to classical music SimonI would answer: “Very”.
2024 has been marked as the year the musician, famous for his decades with Pink Floydhe resumed his solo career after nearly a decade of absence. First, he pitched Luck and strangehis first album since then Shake that lock (2015). Afterwards, he went on tour, something that hadn’t been done for eight years.
Since Gilmour is 78, one imagines he hasn’t made many commitments. However, a Christmas message shared by the guitarist indicates that, in fact, 2025 is expected to be a busy year as well.
First, in the clip, David welcomes his two dogs, plays a dulcimer, and reveals some interesting facts about the instrument. As transcribed by Classic rockhe said:
“It’s a very old instrument that at some point came from Europe. It was widely adopted in the United States: the Appalachian dulcimer. This was made in Italy. My friend’s girlfriend’s father, an Italian, made this for me. II I’ve had it for over 40 years, I think, but I don’t really know how to play it. Rolling Stones I used it in a song called “My Sweet Lady” [nota: provavelmente ‘Lady Jane’].”
Learning aside, Gilmour reinforced his message with gratitude for what happened, and to excite fans, he revealed a little secret: an indication of more to come. The artist declares:
“We’ve had a very long and busy year: we made and released an album, we went on tour, we met new people, new collaborators. One way or another, we ended up with a team of people with whom it’s a ‘absolute joy to play and be around. And I’d love to do it again… starting now!’
David Gilmour’s supposed next album
It is not possible to say exactly what will happen. However, previous interviews have given an indication: David Gilmour plans to record another album. In a statement to advertising billboard (go Igor Miranda’s website), commented:
“My intention is to bring some of these people together [envolvidas com Luck and Strange] and start working on something else in the new year. Just have a few things to start with and wait for everything to start flowing. That’s what I hope happens.”
And where will the eternal Pink Floyd guitarist find the new songs? In an interview with Mojohas already revealed:
“I already have a treasure trove of stuff. Bits and pieces of songs, some of which I really like. There’s a coherence to what we’ve just done with this album now. We’ve taken things further.”
