Musician Dave Grohl admits copying and announces his first album in 5 years

Bob Mould, idolized musician of bands like Hüsker Dü and Sugar, will make Here We Go Crazy available on March 7; the first single is available

One of the alternative scene’s most influential musicians has a new album. Bob Mildewwhich has stood out in the past for integrating bands Hüsker Dü in the 80s and Sugar in the 90s, he confirmed his next album We get crazy here for March 7th.

It will be the first release in 5 years for Mould, who developed a solo career during periods when his groups were not active. There are already 15 albums produced in this way, generally with productions signed by him – as in the case of the upcoming material, which also includes Jon Würster on the battery e Jason Narducy in conclusion.

The album’s title track is available as the first single and can be listened to by clicking herealong with a video directed by Black Gus. In a statement, Mold said the footage was recorded in the Southern California desert, where it is located “It’s been a long time in the last few years”. Regarding the complete work, he comments:

“On the surface, it’s a set of simple guitar pop songs. I’m honing my primary sound and style through simplicity, brevity and clarity. There are a number of contrasting themes. Control and chaos, hypervigilance and impotence, uncertainty and unconditionality.”

Copied from Dave Grohl

Fans less attentive to alternative music may have read the name of Bob Mildew in a specific place: in the titles of Wasting light (2011), one of the most acclaimed albums in Foo Fighters. It’s his turn to appear Dave Grohl in music “Dear Rosemary”.

In a 2021 interview with BBC (go Ultimate guitar), Grohl underlined the importance of Mold in his education, first as a connoisseur of music and then as a composer. He also admitted to his idol that he had copied him at various times in the past.

“I remember the first time I met Bob. I did a lot of stage diving in front of him when I was younger, but the first time we were formally introduced, I was nervous because he’s one of my heroes. And I had to say, ‘Oh, man, you’re such an inspiration, I’ve been copying you for years.’ All he said was, ‘I know…'”

In 2011, a Classic rock (go Igor Miranda’s website), the former drummer of Nirvana revealed that he had already made a direct reference to Hüsker Dü in one of Foo Fighters’ most famous songs. He comments:

“I grew up listening BeatlesI love Led Zeppelinbeyond Bad brains and all punk rock. But when it comes to guitar and song structure, my biggest songwriting influence is Husker Dü. Bob Mold has inspired my playing and writing a lot. I also mentioned one of their songs “Times Like These”when I sing “I am a new day rising.” Bob Mold should be at the top of the great American composers. It’s just as influential as Tom Petti. Thanks for the inspiration.”

Grohl wasn’t the only Nirvana musician to appreciate Mold. The bass player Krist Novoselic he even said, in an old interview with Kerrang!which your band didn’t do “nothing new, since Hüsker Dü had already made that sound before”.
