Let Jarvis explain:

“This is Pulp’s first album since We Love Life in 2001. Yes, the first in almost 24 years. How did this happen?

Well, when we resumed the shows in 2023, we rehearsed a new song called Hymn of the North in Soundchecks and ended up playing her at the second show at Sheffield Arena. This seemed to open the floodgates: we made the rest of the album tracks in the first half of 2024. Some are revived ideas of the last century. The song of one was composed by Richard Hawley; another, by Jason Buckle. The Eno family sings the vocal backing in a track. There are string arrangements made by Richard Jones and executed by Elyian Collective.

The album was recorded in three weeks by James Ford on Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18, 2024. It is the shortest time that Pulp has already taken to record a disc in the modern era. Obviously, it was ready to happen.

These are the facts.

We hope you enjoy the song. It was written and interpreted by four humans from northern England, aided by five others from various parts of the British islands. None was involved in the process.

This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey.

It’s the best we can do.

Thanks for listening. “
