Praise made by the music icon made James Hetfield, vocalist and guitarist of the metal band, have teary eyes
It is not very easy to imagine Elton John listening Metallic. Still, the music icon appreciates the metal band – and even has its favorite song, described by itself as one of the best of all time.
In an interview from 2021 the Howard Stern (via Igor Miranda website), also with the participation of members of the American group, the English artist highlighted “Nothing Else Matters” as his favorite. At the time, he had participated in a rewriting of the track with the singer Miley Cyrusthe cellist Yo-yo mathe producer Andrew Watt and the bassist of the band itself, Robert Trujillo.
He said:
“Look, this is one of the best songs ever composed to this day, for me. It’s a song that never ages. And playing in this rewriting… The structure of chords, melodies, time changes, has drama written everywhere.”
James HetfieldMetallica’s vocalist and guitarist was thrilled to hear the account. I could see that his eyes were teary. Elton, in turn, continued with the compliments:
“Metallica is probably the Crème de la crème of this type of band. You really can’t define them. They are not a heavy metal band. They are a music band. Their songs are not just heavy metal. They are beautiful songs. This is such a melodic song.

The rewriting of “Nothing Else Matters” With Elton John is part of The Metallica Blacklistquadruple album full of versions of songs originally released on the album Metallic (1991), also known as Black Album. Also participate artists and bands like Ghost, Weezer, Royal Blood, St. Vincent, Corey Taylor, Volbeat, Phoebe Bridgers, Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Chris Stapleton, Idlesamong many others.
The project had a charity. The revenue of each sale, download or stream of The Metallica Blacklist was divided equally between the charity institutions of the artist’s choice and for the All Within My Hands FoundationMetallica NGO.
