Musickelly Clarkson transforms romance by Martin Short and Meryl Streep into music

Singer composed ‘Where Have You Been’ after watching characters fall in love in Only Murders in the Building

The parallel novels of the series Only Murders in the BuildingFrom Hulu, they are often overshadowed by their own murders. It is difficult to follow the unfolding of a couple in love while investigating if one is the author of the latest death. But Kelly Clarkson was delighted with the romance between the characters Oliver Putman (interpreted by Martin Short) and Loretta dunkin (Meryl Streep). The experience inspired his new song, “Where Have You Been?”

“I rarely do something like that, but I was watching Only Murders in the Building – it’s the expression of Martin Short,” told Clarkson on his channel on Siriusxm, The Kelly Clarkson Connection.

“He tells the Meryl Streep character in the series: ‘Where were you?’ He’s dazzled, and I thought, ‘Has anyone written a song about it?’ Because music is happy. It’s like you’ve found something you thought was a unicorn, something that didn’t even exist. ”

In contrast to the eccentric mood of the series, “Where Have You Been” It is a gentle and delicate ballad.

“I like my freedom, but I would change a little for a kiss / Bad know how long I hope for that / When it was my hopes, they are gone, heavens that I won’t miss / I was so lonely, I didn’t count on it,” Sings Clarkson.

“Where were you? / Why did it take so long? / I thought you had found you / I found out you were wrong / I almost gave up / My light was so weak / And now, here are you / where were you?”

This is Clarkson’s first single since the release of the Deluxe edition of his album Chemistryin 2023.

“I was trying to find a word that really described the whole album, because I didn’t want people to think it was just like, ‘I’m angry, I’m sad’ – just one or two emotions, you know?” explained Clarkson earlier.

“This album is the complete arc of a relationship, and an entire relationship should not be reduced to one thing. So there’s the good, the bad and the ugly happening in it.”
