The Amy Winehouse Bandcelebration of the legacy of Amy Winehouse With an interpretation by his original band, he tour four shows throughout Brazil. The presentations take place in Porto Alegre (Araújo Vianna Auditorium – 15/05), São Paulo (Cine Joia – 16/05), Rio de Janeiro (Foundry Progress – 17/05) and Belo Horizonte (Grand Minascentro Theater – 18/05), right after a Latin American tour that passed through Colombia, Venezuela, San Salvador, Argentina, Chile, among other countries.
The project is led by Dale Davisbassist and music director of the group that accompanied the British singer, who died in 2011 at the age of 27. The vocals are taken over by Bronte Shande, an artist of the English city of Bristol and also influenced by Erykah Badu and Esperanza Spalding, while the other musicians come from Amy’s original support formation. They are:
- Dale Davis (musical/bass direction): In addition to Amy’s music director and bassist, he worked as a studio musician in the United Kingdom and also tours and recorded with Tina Turner, Mark Ronson, Norman Cook and Paul Young;
- Stuart Anning (drummer): Participated in the band of Amy recording the album Frank (2003) and the video live at the BBC (2012), playing live with her on different occasions. Stuart is also a producer, with albums with the Ministry of Sound and other compilations of electronic music and dance.
- Henry Collins (trumpet): United Kingdom jazzzistic scene artist, Henry Collins has performed on international stages with names like Tom Jones, Van Morrison, Michael Bublé and Noel Gallagher.
- Dave Temple (Saxophone): He played on Amy Winehouse’s first album, and accompanied her on international tours. London -based musician and composer. He toured as a support musician for artists such as Emeli Sande, Busted and Dear Emerald.
- Hawi Gondwe (guitarist): Between 2007 and 2011, Hawi was Amy guitarist. He made the presentation in Glastonbury in 2008, undergoing full shows in Europe and South America, until his intimate acoustic performances around the world. He also introduced himself and recorded with George Michael, Gnarkley, Corinne Bailey Rae and Sinead O’Connor.
About the honoree artist, Davis states in disclosure material:
“Amy was amazing. She had such a big heart and if she liked you, you felt, she gave you everything. Her musical legacy is so important that our goal is to keep him alive around the world.”
Amy Winehouse’s death
On July 23, 2011, Amy Winehouse left us. The singer of “Back to Black”, “Rehab” and other successes died victim of an alcoholic poisoning. Previously, he had his private life widely covered by the media because of years suffering from drug addiction.
It is worth remembering that the artist, killed at 27, fought chemical dependence over almost every year of her adult life. She already had problems when she broke out worldwide with the 2006 Back To Black album – not by chance, the hit “Rehab” It talks about people around trying to make her admitted to a rehab clinic.
It has gone to the point that this problem became public and visible, so that Amy emerged in a deplorable state on the streets and even on stage-as seen at her shows in Brazil, months before her death in January 2011.
On the other hand, during his short career of just two albums, Winehouse left a series of songs that put her on the level of one of the greatest voices of her generation. Founding Soul, R&B and Jazz, the artist had millions of albums sold on a global scale-it is estimated that only Back to black Count on over 20 million units sold – and won five Grammy awards in the same edition in 2008.
