Greater music guilty for the unhappiness of George Harrison in the Beatles

The band’s youngest, guitarist revealed that he had serious friction with a more experienced member – and even abandoned the group once

John Lennon and Paul McCartneygreater creative partnership in the history of pop music, came to the end of the Beatles with the worn relationship. At the same time, another internal conflict explicitly marked the final moments of the band.

Before childhood friends, who studied and grew together, Paul and George Harrison They ended as antagonists as the group’s outcome was approaching. The second half of the 1960s unfolded not very pleasant for both of them.

More and more Paul became the great creative leader – and sometimes also authoritarian – from FAB Four. At the same time, George had been developing his skills as a composer, but without receiving from his colleague the support he thought he deserved.

In statement recovered by American SongwriterGeorge commented on the maturation process that has been having over the years and, according to him, was not assimilated by the old friend:

“Paul and I studied together. I had the feeling that, you know, everyone changes, and sometimes people don’t want others to change, or even to change, they don’t accept that you have changed. And they keep in mind any other image of you, you know?”

George added that this also spread to the musical field, with his ideas being foolish, mainly by Paul the greatest “guilty” for his growing dissatisfaction in the Beatles.

“Musically, it was like being in a bag and they didn’t let me get out of him, which was basically Paul at that time. The musical conflict for me was Paul. And yet I could play with any other band or musician and have reasonably fun.”

George Harrison came out of the Beatles

This state of unhappiness on the part of George Harrison reached the rupture, in fact, when the band met to compose what would become the album Let it be (1970). After an argument with Paul, the guitarist decides to abandon the group and then convinced to return. The bullshit was recorded in detail in the documentary The Beatles: Get Backdeveloped by Peter Jackson and released in 2021.

In 2020, Paul McCartney spoke about an interview with Howard Stern Show. Macca admits that he underestimated George Harrison’s musical evolution. In a way, the bassist dressed the hood of “villain”:

“I think it was easy to underestimate George because John and I always wrote most songs and wrote most singles.”

Paul explained his point of view about what happened over time in terms of composition within the band:

“George was late for writing. He was not so interested in the beginning. But he became interested and the boy flourished. In the end, he wrote some of the best songs of all time.”

Unattended

From the 1970s, each Beatle followed their way and their solo career. In the future, George Harrison – who left us in 2001 – would again say words of affection on Paul, despite the raid in the ultimate stage of the band.

“Actually, I love Paul, he’s my mate, and no matter what they say in the newspapers, they won’t take advantage of it.”
