The rapper celebrates collective work and states that authenticity is not measured by number of names in the technical documentation
Cardi B is not known for the escape of disputes and, this time, has decided to face one of the most discussed questions in the contemporary music sector: the collective composition.
During the Ascap Rhythm & Soul Award ceremony, rapper New York used his speech to defend, with conviction, artists who work with a true battalion of composers.
“I hate this idea that if you have not written all the verses alone, your music is not real,” he said, with the firmness of those who have listened to this type of criticism more than once. “Music is a collaboration. It has always been.”
The artist’s speech arrives at a time when the authenticity of the compositions has been checked, in particular on social networks.
In times of public technical registers and careful eyes of the public, names such as Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Doja Cat have already been questioned by signing songs with Long Co -outhors List.
In Brazil, Luísa Sonza also faced judgments after revealing that one of her tracks in “Intimate Scandal” had twelve collaborators.
Contrary to what the most rigorous critics suggest, Cardi B sees in this multiplicity of voices a force, not a defect. “When you are an artist, you are channeling feelings, ideas, melodies … you are not always alone. And this doesn’t make you less real,” he said.
The rapper’s topic has taken up in the history of popular music. From the golden years of Motown to the backstage of today’s industry, it is common that successes are the result of intense creative exchanges. And there is nothing wrong with this. The romantic vision of the lone artist, who composes Dawn in Candlelight, is beautiful, but it is not the only valid way to make art.
Cardi knows it and his speech is also a clear message for those who still find authenticity for the number of accredited names. “Doing everything alone? It seems unreal,” he said.
Cardi B: silence before the second album
Since he released “Invasion of Privacy” in 2018, Cardi B has kept fans waiting for a second album. Between punctual collaborations, separate blows and moments of silence, the artist has prepared the ground for the new work, whose release date remains indefinite.
Even without forecast, the reflector remains for her. Part of this charm comes just when Cardi B deals with celebrities: no filter and generous doses of sincerity.
His speech to Ascap not only defended creative plurality, but he also stressed that in music, what really matters is delivery. And in this regard, Cardi has never had to.
