Vocalist made a list of some of his favorite songs at all times – among them, one of Mother Monster’s great hits
In May 2020, Bono He celebrated his 60th anniversary with an unusual tribute to some of his favorite artists. The vocalist of U2 He wrote, as if he were in the skin of the fans, letters to his idols by choosing his favorite music of each.
The material was published on the band’s official website with the name of 60 Songs that saved my life (“60 songs that saved my life”in Portuguese).
Among the contemplated icons were Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Van Morrisonartists constantly praised by Bono. These are names that influenced him to be interested in music, to set up the U2 and face difficult periods in life.
He explained his intention with the list:
“These are some of the songs that saved my life. Those without which I could not have lived … those that led me from here, from zero to 60 … by all the misconduct, all kinds of discomfort, from the serious to silly … and for joy, especially joy.”
And added:
“I wanted to thank the artists and everyone who helped create them. They were doing the same for me … I’m writing a fan letter to follow each song and try to explain my fascination.”
Lady Gaga on the list
A surprise, however, was the inclusion of “Born this way”from Lady Gaga. In the “Letter” directed to pop singer, Bono praised the quality of the song and explained why she likes her so much:
“Dear Lady Gaga, when he first heard it, I knew, like everyone, how clear the concept was and that the chorus would be one of those! It was the second time I realized the lyrical power of the presentation with verses like ‘God does not make mistakes.”
Bono added:
“A song may be too perfect, but this is not … her perfection is in the fact that she loves the cracks we all fell. Some in high heels, some on the floor or knee. Gaga, you have overcome all the others with this one. This song will be sung forever.”
Lady Gaga and “Born This Way”
“Born this way” He left on the album of the same name released in 2011. It was Lady Gaga’s second studio album. Music speaks of empowerment, both female and LGBTQIAPN+ and racial minorities.
