Former Olympic athlete Diego Hypolito revealed in an interview with the podcast Selfie servicepresented by Lucas Selfie, the real reasons that led him to accept the invitation to participate in the 25th edition of Big Brother Brazildisplayed at the beginning of 2025.
The main reason, according to him, was a serious financial crisis that culminated in the loss of over $ 10 million accumulated during his trajectory as a professional gymnast.
Diego, who made history in Brazilian sport as it represents the country at the Olympic Games of Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016), explained that the lack of financial organization, combined with a bad management of resources and shots suffered by close people, have compromised all its resources. “I had money for the rest of my life. The gym gave me stability, but I don’t know how I lost everything. Some people have stolen me, I lost properties and more than $ 10 million in a few months,” he said frankly.
The financial situation has completely destabilized its family structure, reaching its mother directly, Matias genes. “We were downloaded. We had everything and suddenly there wasn’t even money to buy a coffee package. My mother almost died when it happened. It was very painful seeing everything collapsed so quickly,” recalled the former girl, electrified.
According to Diego, the impact of this situation was decisive for his decision to enter the reality show show of TV Globo. “I decided to enter BBB as a way to start again. I wanted people to remember my titles, my story in sport. It was an attempt to recover visibility and build something new, especially for my mother, who has always been by my side.”
Diego participated in the attraction together with his sister, Daniele Hypolito, also a former Olympic lady. He remained at home until the final stretch of the season, being the 20th eliminated, less than a week from the final. It received 59.77% of the votes in a triple wall against Vitória Strada and Renata, the latter consecrated champion of the edition.
