K-Pop Artist Moon Tae-Il is convicted of rape

The singer admitted participation in the abuse of a Chinese tourist in June 2024, together with two accomplices

Moon Tae-IlFormer member of the South Korean group NCTwas sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for participation in a case of collective rape in June 2024. The sentence was confirmed by BBC.

During a hearing held last month, Toeil, with the other accused identified by the local press only as Hong and Lee, recognized that he had participated in sexual violence against a Chinese tourist. The three admitted that they had alternated the abuse. According to the investigations, the crime took place after the group met the victim in a bar in the Itaewon district of Seoul, a region famous for their nightlife. After drinking together, they convinced him to go to one of them, where the crime occurred.

Although the judge responsible for the case ranked the episode as “extremely serious”, the sanction was less than that requested by the prosecutor, who had requested seven years in prison. The Court considered that the three were primary defendants, which justified the reduction of the sentence. As part of the punishment, Toeil, Hong and Lee will also have to respect 40 hours in a re -education program aimed at perpetrating sexual crimes.

Moon Tae-Il announced his official departure from NCT in August after the first complaints involving his name have become public.
