Black GilHe made a point of leaving his last party with the perfect trail. During the singer’s funeral at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater, this Friday (25), what was heard was not any repertoire, but a musical selection designed by herself to pack her farewell. Created in 2022, the playlist has 100 songs chosen by Blacka sound will of those who lived life with intensity, affection and awareness of its history.

Most of the tracks were added to the 2023 New Year’s Eve, with one last 30 songs made on the eve of the funeral on July 24. The result is an exciting tour of styles, generations and affections that were part of the Blackfrom Brazilian popular music from African matrix to international pop, from spiritual songs to hymns of love, freedom and female strength.

Rachel Reis is the most present artist in the national team, with seven tracks, including music “Lovezinho”which appears twice. Close friend of Black, Gum also comes prominently in three songs, including “Gin Drink” and “Patuá”. Among the names that marked their personal and professional history are Ivete Sangalo (with four tracks), Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Marina Sena, Duda Beat, LUEDJI LUNA, Liniker, Gloria Groove, EMICIDA and Baianasystem.

The playlist still makes room for international icons like Diana Ross, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Rosalia, Dua Lipa, Drake and even Red Hot Chili Peppersall fitted with sensitivity in a farewell that was everything but silent.

More than an aesthetic gesture, the soundtrack that packed the goodbye of Black Gil Confirm what we already knew: she turned everything into expression and even her departure became a manifestation of love, beauty, ancestry and joy.
