THE queen was named the most played rock artist in the United Kingdom during the 21st century. The information appears in a new ranking by PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) released to celebrate the National Album Day 2025which will soon be held in the country.
The band has accumulated more than 400 million seconds of broadcast time on British radio and television, the equivalent of 12.5 years of continuous playback this century. The group’s most performed track is “A Kind Of Magic”.
The guitarist Brian May reacted to the recognition by stating that the achievement is surprising. “Impressive news! Taking into account that most of the main works of the queen was made in the 20th century, it’s incredible to lead a 21st century list. Thank you very much to all our fans”, he declared.
Peter LeathemCEO of PPLcommented that the ranking demonstrates how rock music from different decades remains strong on the UK airwaves. “Congratulations to queen for this great achievement in such a significant year for the anniversary of their first number one album – A Night At The Opera (1975). It is a testament to their expansive and much-loved musical catalog that they continue to mean so much to British audiences to this day.”
