“The Hits Just Keep On Comin’” is the single from the album Black Sky Over The Projects: Apartment 2025, with a music video starring a US water polo Olympian
This Wednesday, 29th, Public Enemy released the video for “The Hits Just Keep On Comin’”, the first video of Black Sky Over The Projects: Apartment 2025album released in June. Directed by Rhiannon Rae Ellisthe video is, as usual, provocative — alternating images of revolutionary figures like Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali with scenes from Chuck D and Flavor Flav in a room full of televisions.
The clip begins with images of Ruby Bridges entering school William Frantz Elementaryin New Orleans, in 1960, ending the institution’s years of racial segregation. Then the actress Safara-Cree Stiggers plays a young girl Bridgesopening a door that leads to the main scene of the video. From then on, the Olympic water polo player Ashleigh Johnson takes on the roles of iconic figures such as Prince, Tommy Smith, Serena Williams and Amanda Gormanwhile the members of the Public Enemy rhyme over an energetic guitar loop.
Flavor Flav sets the tone of resistance, rhyming: “Take us down, we… we’re not going to stop now, B”, and Chuck D follows with: “Listen — do you have radio permission?/Hits hard, knocks the mission out.” From the excerpt of the late congressman and activist’s speech John Lewis at the 1963 March on Washington to the scene where Johnson destroys a TV with the word “hate” emblazoned on the screen, the video seeks to reflect the turbulent political state of the world with the same urgency as Public Enemy’s refrain: “what you got, you gotta do something.”
“These lyrics are still as relevant today as they were yesterday — and when they are juxtaposed with these heroes who never gave up, no one can make excuses,” he said. Chuck D the Rolling Stone in an email statement. “It’s time to wake up and DO something. Emphasis on ‘DO’. And the Flav He outdid himself this time.”
Flavor Flav adds: “This clip from ‘The Hits Just Keep On Comin’‘ brings a very important history lesson, a very important message and a very important warning. My friend Ashleigh Johnsonfrom the Olympic water polo team, did a phenomenal job honoring some of modern civil rights and cultural heroes. I’m very proud of the art and the important message the Public Enemy continues to present.”
The video follows the release of “Black Sky VIDmash”, a clip from Public Enemy which mixes three different songs and was released on October 27th. Flavor Flav was an official sponsor of the US women’s water polo team — which included Johnson — at the 2024 Olympic Games, and recently announced that he will play the same role for the North American bobsled and skeleton team at the 2026 Games.
