Tribute to Silvio Tendler
THE São Paulo Food Film Fest 2025 pays tribute to the filmmaker Silvio Tendlerone of the biggest names in Brazilian documentaries, whose work illuminated the country’s contradictions and inspired generations to resist with art, sensitivity and critical awareness. Author of films such as The Poison Is on the Table I and II, Tendler turned cinema into a poetic trench against hunger, inequality and the poisoning of life, both in the body and in the soul.
The special session, on the day November 20th from 7pm at Reserva Cultural, presents the documentary O Veneno Está na Mesa II and an unprecedented interview with the filmmaker, followed by a debate mediated by André Luzzi and participation by Ana Tendler (his daughter) and Susana Prizendt, author of the essay Agroecologia e Artísmo: When the struggle is also at the table. In the text, Susana reflects on how the construction of another agri-food system is born from “cracks”, moments in which resignation gives way to resilience, and the artistic gesture turns into political action.
Debates and workshops
The festival also promotes five debates with important names such as Bela Gil and Paula Johns, Prof. Maria Alvim, Elaine de Azevedo, Luiza Fecarotta, Murilo Góesamong others, Class Shows, Audiovisual Workshops for all ages, Gastronomy Fair, on the 21st, 22nd and 23/11 at CCSP, and a special program on Black Awareness Day, on November 20th, also at Centro Cultural São Paulo, and much more!
To the Show classes bring the richness of typically Brazilian cuisine with Neide Rigoreference in PANCs; Jerá Guaraniguardian of ancestral knowledge; and Eugene and Marciafrom Mbee, dedicated to sustainable beekeeping. The proposal is to show that cooking is also a cultural and political act, which connects history, community and care.
