Hanged by security, journalist denounces racism at Rock In Rio

the dream of Rock in Rio for the journalist Marcelo Manso, 36, has turned into a nightmare. After leaving the festival, in the early hours of Monday 5, Manso denounced the production of Rock In Rio in Rio de Janeiro, claiming to have been attacked physically and suffered racism.

The reporter followed the Cidade do Rock concerts for its independent news portal, Mais Brasil. At the end of the performance of the singer João Gomes, Sunday 5, Manso says that he was prevented from leaving the street he had entered by. As the team pointed another way, a man would approach him and accused of having stolen beers and even the cell phone he had in his hands.

He claims to have filmed the discussion, but in the end it was immobilized safety with a bare rear choke. Everything would happen at the Itaú Tik Tok Arena.

“I couldn’t breathe. They asked me to unlock my cell phone to delete the record, and I couldn’t, I was choking. They told me: ‘Of course you can’t unlock it, you can’t afford a cell phone like that, you stole it'”, recalls Manso, in an interview with Folha de S. Paolo.

Realizing that he could pass out, the reporter decided to hand over the device. According to him, the attackers deleted all evidence and their credentials were withdrawn.

In a statement, Rock In Rio said the reporter “had to be removed from the production team from a restricted backstage area because he invaded and tried to get into the container of one of the stage directors.”

The case is expected to be investigated by the 42nd Civil Police District of Rio de Janeiro, where the report was registered as a personal injury, according to information from the Folha de S. Paolo.
