People are listening to more music than ever before, says survey

Research by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry points to a considerable increase in music consumption

THE International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) released research on world music consumption in the year 2022. According to the report, the public began to listen to about 2 hours more per week compared to the previous year.

The estimate points out that people spend 20.1 hours listening to music weekly, against 18.4 hours in 2021. This represents an increase of about 34 3-minute songs in a week (via NME🇧🇷

Research interviewed 44,000 people in 22 different countries and also collected other data on consumption. Nearly half of those surveyed (46%) claimed to subscribe to a paid streaming service. In addition, three-quarters enjoy a variety of formats to listen to their favorite artists – including video, streaming audio, games, television and radio.

Regarding the importance of music in people’s lives, 69% stated that it is essential for mental health and physical exercise. Short videos also had their growth noticed, with 63% of this type of content being concentrated in the TikTok🇧🇷

Finally, the survey asked about the use of piracy. Despite the increase in users of streaming services, one in three people admitted to using illegal means to listen to music.
