In 2011, a Brazilian at the time in Calypso sent a question so that the legendary American musician from Guns N’ Roses could answer
Since becoming established with the Armas e Rosas, slash is cited as one of rock’s greatest guitarists. Chimbinha is Brazilian and has not always shared so much prestige: at the height of Calypsothe musician was often quoted in memes and jokes about what would address a technique limitation on his instrument.
In this way, a dialogue between slash and Chimbinha, correct? However, something very close to that happened in 2011, through the program High hoursgives TV Globo.
During the first solo tour of the then ex-guitarist of Armas e Rosas throughout Brazil, several Brazilian musicians were invited to send questions for him to answer. The result would be broadcast on the television show of Serginho Groisman. Andreas Kisser (Grave), Yves Passarell (Initial Capital), gee rock (NX Zero), Marco Tulio Lara (Jota Quest) and Pepeu Gomes (New baianos) recorded their questions and were answered by the top hat musician.
In the middle of the guest list was Chimbinhaat the time signed as chimbinha. The guitarist from Pará asked a very pertinent question to his instrument partner at the time.
“When I started playing, I used to dance and Armas e Rosas at the time, which was a huge success around the world. […] How is the solo career going? Because it comes from several projects, from Armas e Rosaswhich was one of the biggest bands in the world, and is now going solo.”
Slash’s response to Ximbinha
In response to the Brazilian’s question, the legendary musician – who left Armas e Rosas in the 1990s and returned in 2016 – stated:
“having been Armas e Rosas It’s something I’m proud of, of course. There are my roots. I managed to make a name for myself as a rock guitarist in that band. But I also managed to move forward with other goals as a guitarist. I look back and try to see if I’ve moved on from that time. It’s a good ‘barometer’. It’s really nice to have a solo project. It’s the first time in 30 years that I’m not in a group. I get a better idea of what I am capable of doing and where I can go. And it also gives me freedom to do what I want.”
Although he returned to guns in 2016, as mentioned earlier, slash made a point of keeping his solo career active. The project’s latest album, 4, was made available in early 2022.
