Owner of hits on TikTok, Rogerinho is releasing his second DVD, “Pode Crê”, and witnesses the unexpected success of the song “085”
You can say that you don’t like bregadeira, or even ignore the musical genre that has conquered the web. But if you spend a few minutes on Instagram or TikTok, you’ve definitely heard of them MC Rogerinho hits. ‘Tchuco Nela’, ‘protruding boot’, ‘Only you’ and the most recent ‘085’ are some of the challenges and dance tracks on the video platform.
Since it broke out on the web until today, the numbers are staggering. There are already more than 1 billion streams on YouTube and Spotify; 125 million views of the music video ‘protruding boot’122 million views on the video for ‘Tchuco Nela’over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube.
In 2020, the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, he found his way to success in the industry.
“What broke Rogerinho was the TikTok platform, so, everything we’re going to do, the music we’re going to release. It’s a great platform to promote songs, because it goes viral really fast,” says MC Rogerinho, in an interview with Land. “Every job we’re going to do, we always think about what we can put on TikTok, to leverage the music.”
In this process, some surprises also happen. It is the case of ‘085’, which has had a growth considered organic by the singer’s team. This is because Rogerinho decided to work on music ‘Lapadona’ throw You can believe, the second DVD of his career, recorded at the end of 2022 in Fortaleza. But it was the hit that references the area code of the capital of Ceará that won the hearts of tiktokers.
In two weeks, for example, there are already 3.9 million views on YouTube. The blend of trap and bregadeira won over those from Fortaleza and those who had no idea what the song title meant.
“They sent it to me, I got it right away. I thought the melody was very different, from ‘Chapeuzinho’ [Vermelho, personagem de história infantil]. A lot of people would identify with the melody and the lyrics too, I didn’t think twice about picking it up,” she reveals.
“I’ve already been humiliated”
MC Rogerinho of 2023 seems to be proud of the pre-teen who started in music in 2013. He studied drums and percussion, but decided to follow the advice of the DJ he worked with and invested in singing. At just 13 he became a point of reference in Sobral (CE), his hometown, after a video of him reached 10,000 views.
While it was an expressive number to the epic, it wasn’t enough to be treated with the respect and consideration it currently experiences.
“I was already very humiliated. Singing, the person came and turned off the light, because the light was from another band, and left me in the dark,” he recalls.
Today he makes fun of other episodes he’s experienced, as if no one would go to a show he did for free.
“There were two days of celebration, so the boy hired us for those two days. It was ‘closed’. The first day there was a ticket – R $ 20 -, nobody entered. Then the boy said: ‘ Oh, I will release the entrance to the party for everyone who wants to enter”. No one came in,” he says. “I think the problem wasn’t me, it was the advertisers. I don’t know what happened that day, my mind went wrong [risos]“.
the success of bregadeira
When it started out, the trend was ostentatious funk and it hasn’t lagged behind. But, despite the “MC” in his stage name, Rogerinho wasn’t limited to just beats.
“I sang arrocha, forró. I never had my rhythm to sing, just that. If it were to release a romantic rhythm, I would release it; if it were to record a swingueira, I would record it; a pagode, I would record it. There is no it was pace until I found bregadeira,” he admits.
That I find occurred between 2018 and 2019. ‘Only you’ it was launched just months before the Covid-19 pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO), in March. It had less than 20,000 views at the time. With everyone at home and TikTok on the rise, someone did a little dance that made the song go viral.
Despite the potential for a clip, which came soon after it went viral, Rogerinho says he only realized how successful it was when the phone rang and it was an invitation to record with Léo Santana and Kevinho.
“The guys called me to record the song together, and the song started to rise on the platforms. It reached the #Top2 on Spotify. It hit good, thank God,” he recalls.
Rogerinho says a lot – “a lot, a lot” – has changed in those nearly three years: cars and houses for him, his mother, equipment for the band, a crew of three to 13 people at concerts. Changes also in friendships.
“A lot of people didn’t care. We know who’s who, who walked with them and who didn’t.
