Netflix is developing a scripted series about the New York Yankees, one of the best-known sports franchises in the United States and one with one of the deepest histories behind it. The project will involve MLB Studios and has Jason Bateman attached, among other names.
The series follows Amazon's own sports drama in development, Madden, which stars Nicolas Cage as NFL legend John Madden and Christian Bale as his friend and Raiders owner, already confirmed for Prime Video with a trailer and release date. Netflix's answer swaps football for baseball.

A story spanning several eras
Few details have been released about the production, which remains in the development phase. Netflix has confirmed the series will not be limited to one particular season or team, and will instead cover several eras of the Yankees, touching on different moments in the trajectory of a franchise that has shaped the history of American baseball.
The concept was developed by Josh Wakely, who secured the rights from MLB to bring the project forward. Wakely will serve as executive producer through Grace: A Storytelling Company, while Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan will do the same on behalf of Aggregate Films.
The New York team has won 27 World Series titles, more than any other sports franchise in North America. Some of the greatest legends in baseball history have played for the Yankees, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson. The franchise also counts 52 players and 11 coaches in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Netflix strengthens its MLB ties
The new series arrives as Netflix reinforces its relationship with Major League Baseball. The agreement signed by both parties covers the broadcast of several live events during 2026, 2027 and 2028, after the platform this year streamed the season-opening game between the Yankees and the San Francisco Giants along with the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
The next major event will be MLB at Field of Dreams, pitting the Philadelphia Phillies against the Minnesota Twins on August 13, which will be shown live and exclusively on Netflix.
Netflix and MLB Studios have also worked together previously, on the Emmy-winning short film El cambio de rumbo, on Boston Red Sox: La remontada de 2004, and on the docuseries El clubhouse: Un año con los Red Sox.
