Streaming service Netflix launched its new young adult rowing romance series Crew Girl on Sept. 10, 2026, starring Toronto actress Miku Martineau as a prep school student joining a boys' varsity crew team.

The series follows Teagan Tao, a single sculls specialist who transfers to prestigious Easton Prep on the East Coast following a family scandal. Seeking a fresh start, Teagan joins the school's culture-challenged boys' varsity crew team as coxswain because Easton Prep has no girls' rowing team.

Once on the water, Teagan becomes embroiled in a central love triangle with two members of the boys' crew team: cocky team captain Josh Regis, played by Sam Braun, and quietly driven teammate Cam Dillinger, played by Kyle Clark. Teagan finds herself charmed in dueling ways by both athletes as a heated rivalry erupts for her attention.

Rowing Training and Cast Chemistry
Ahead of the Sept. 10 premiere, the cast revealed the grueling physical preparation required for the show in an interview with E! News reporter Erin Lim Rhodes. To convincingly portray competitive collegiate-style athletes, the actors underwent intensive rowing training before filming began.

Martineau highlighted how the physical demands of competitive rowing fit the drama of a high school storyline. "Rowing is a sport that involves so much emotion and so much tension," Martineau told E! News, "and respect and communication. All of those things are great qualities of a coming-of-age story."

The shared training sessions helped forge strong personal connections among the performers, though their existing relationships varied before production started. "So much of the cast are based out of Vancouver," Braun shared with E!, "so we all knew each other before starting the show. I feel like that's a really special chemistry."

Martineau, a 21-year-old Toronto native, quickly interjected during the interview, "I didn't know any of them." However, she added that "everybody showed up with a great attitude and down to be friends."

That camaraderie extended into off-set fitness pursuits. Clark quipped that Braun carried his athletic commitment into real life by taking up ultramarathon running as a new hobby. "I think this guy might have carried over the athletic lifestyle most," Clark said of his co-star.

Miku Martineau as Teagan Tao
Miku Martineau leads the series as Teagan Tao, a talented rower forced to rebuild her life at Easton Prep. In rowing, a single sculls specialist competes individually using two oars, but as a coxswain, Teagan takes charge of steering the boat, directing rhythm, and motivating the crew from the stern.

To prepare for the role, Martineau had to master rowing techniques from scratch while managing a demanding work schedule. She told E! News that she balanced early morning rowing practice sessions with late-night shoots for an upcoming sci-fi feature film.

Martineau is a Canadian singer, voice actress, and screen performer who made her on-camera acting debut in the 2021 action thriller film Kate. Since then, she has built a varied resume, appearing in the comedy film Honor Society, the Paramount+ original movie Star Trek: Section 31, the Netflix drama series Bet, and the Peacock thriller series The Miniature Wife.

Kyle Clark and Samuel Braun
Kyle Clark co-stars as Cam Dillinger, described as the scholarship kid with a heart of gold who shares an instant connection and gets an A+ in chemistry with Teagan. Clark is a Canadian actor who previously played Young Forsythe Jones on the CW teen drama series Riverdale and appeared in episodes of the Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club.

Samuel Braun plays crew captain Josh Regis, who competes directly against Dillinger for Teagan's romantic focus. Braun began his acting career at age 10 in the 2013 feature film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. He has since built an extensive television background with roles in superhero drama Superman & Lois, drama series Firefly Lane, firefighter drama Fire Country, and the viral Netflix romantic film Voicemails for Isabelle.

Off screen, Braun appears to be attached in real life. The actor has shared photographs with his girlfriend, Shanti Harris, on his public Instagram account.
Jessica Paré and Adult Characters
Québécois actress Jessica Paré plays Teagan's mother, Ella Tao, bringing one of the most recognizable faces to American audiences in the cast. Paré gained widespread fame in 2010 playing Megan Draper, the second wife of Don Draper, on the AMC drama series Mad Men, where her performance of the French song Zou Bisou Bisou became a notable pop culture moment.
Prior to Mad Men, Paré starred in the WB political drama series Jack & Bobby and featured in films such as the romantic drama Wicker Park and the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. Most recently, she spent seven seasons starring as Officer Amanda Ellis on the CBS military drama series SEAL Team.
Parisian-born actor Thomas Cadrot plays Easton Prep crew coach Matt Hayden, serving as one of the primary adult figures overseeing the team. Cadrot is a multilingual actor based in Vancouver whose television credits include Supernatural, Fringe, Arrow, The Flash, Nancy Drew, and Family Law. On the big screen, Cadrot has appeared in the blockbuster films Star Trek Beyond and Scream VI.
Easton Prep Classmates and Crew Members
The rest of the Easton Prep crew and student body includes several rising Canadian actors. Connor Paton plays Ryder Regis, who is Josh's brother and teammate on the varsity boat. Paton previously appeared in television series such as iZombie, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, and Riverdale, and he portrayed pop star Lance Bass in the 2017 Lifetime biographical film Britney Ever After.
Jude Wilson plays crew member Bronson "Baloo" Garner. Wilson is a native of Vancouver, where Riverdale was filmed, adding to the cast's shared connections to the long-running CW teen series. His additional screen credits include the ABC drama A Million Little Things, the procedural Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, and the Showtime historical miniseries Fellow Travelers.
Teagan's female classmates at Easton Prep are played by Sage Linder, Alaska Leigh, and Olga Petsa. The trio portray Britney, Amber, and Juliet, three wealthy students who introduce Teagan to the school's highbrow social circles.
Sage Linder previously starred in the Canadian teen drama series The Next Step and the Amazon Prime Video mystery series Harlan Coben's Shelter. Alaska Leigh has performed in national touring productions of the stage musicals Chicago and Rock of Ages, alongside screen roles in the film Stick, the series Fire Country, and the Lifetime television movie Dying for a Family. Cyprus-born actress Olga Petsa previously appeared in the dystopian anthology series Black Mirror and the comedy-drama feature I Used to Be Funny.
