Oasis fans were left weeping in cinemas after the premiere of Noel and Liam Gallagher's tell-all documentary Don't Look Back in Anger on Wednesday.
The new film chronicles the brothers' split and reconciliation while following the British rock band on their 2025 reunion tour. It also features their first joint interview in over 20 years.
The brothers famously broke up in 2009 after a backstage fight in Paris, which led to a 15-year public spat. Last year, they ended their feud and went back on stage together for their comeback tour, an event devoted Oasis fans never thought they would experience again.
Formed in Manchester in 1991, Oasis became one of the defining acts of the Britpop movement during the 1990s. Led by vocalist Liam Gallagher and lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher, the group achieved worldwide fame with hit songs such as Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. Their landmark multi-platinum albums Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? established them as one of the most successful rock bands in British history.
Fan reactions on social media
Following its cinema release on Wednesday, viewers took to social media platform X to share their thoughts and emotional reactions to the documentary.
One fan posted: "Bawling over the oasis documentary it’s so over." Another viewer commented: "On a brighter note, the Oasis documentary is 10/10."
A third fan wrote: "Finally got to see the film and my heart is so full it could explode. I love this band more than life itself. LONG LIVE OASIS." Another viewer remarked: "Just out of the oasis documentary…absolutely brilliant. Loved every second of it and it catches you emotionally numerous times. It’s funny, sad, emotional and more. Other audience members hailed the movie as "Unreal" and rated it "10/10." One fan added: "Just out the Oasis film. Emotional rollercoaster, brilliant. What a choice for the end credits as well. Wish I could go back to the feeling of that gig again. They’ve done a great job of showing how amazing it all was."
Filming during rehearsals
Filmmakers admitted that Noel and Liam Gallagher were not really on speaking terms when production began during rehearsals for the comeback tour.
The brothers travelled separately throughout the tour. Unusually, tour promoters only paid them once they had completed all 41 dates because the band had such a history of conflict.
As the tour progressed, their relationship improved. Their children also met each other for the first time in many years during the road trip.
The 2009 split in Paris
The tumultuous relationship between Liam and Noel famously saw Oasis break up 17 years ago as a result of backstage bust-ups, walk-outs, and numerous booze-fuelled arguments.
After working through countless bickers since shooting to stardom in the 1990s, fans were left devastated when a dressing room feud in Paris tore the band apart in 2009.
Noel issued a statement at the time announcing his exit: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
In another statement released a few days later, titled Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere, Noel added: "I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and band mates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new."
In the years that followed, a bitter feud ensued with the brothers regularly trading insults back and forth in interviews and on social media.
The 2009 split occurred right before Oasis was scheduled to perform at a major festival near Paris. The sudden cancellation marked the end of an era for the band, which had previously dominated stadiums around the world, including historic record-breaking concerts at Knebworth House in 1996.
Upcoming tour announcement
The release of the documentary comes as the Daily Mail revealed earlier this week that Oasis are just days away from announcing a second tour following the extraordinary success of their sell-out comeback shows last year.
The pair are expected to begin teasing the news soon, before formally unveiling the new dates next week.
The announcement will offer fresh hope to the legions of fans who missed out during the extraordinary rush for tickets when the brothers first announced their reunion.
A source told the Daily Mail: "The new tour has been in the making for some time and now they're ready to get going with it. Unlike last time there's not such a panic about whether Liam and Noel will get on, there isn't the drama around it. It's just a case of them looking forward to getting on stage. Oasis-mania is coming back!"
The planned announcement will mark the next chapter in one of the most remarkable comebacks in British music history, after the warring brothers stunned fans by putting aside years of bitter animosity to reunite on stage.
