A team of California scientists has created an OnlyFans account to raise money for their research after government funding cuts put the project at risk, according to Dangerous Minds.
The project, which studies yellow-bellied marmots in central Colorado and is led by professor Daniel Blumstein, faced closure after its government funding was reduced. At an emergency meeting, the team decided to monetize footage from their surveillance cameras.
The account, called OnlyMarms, features what it bills as candid footage of yellow-bellied marmots from the Rocky Mountains. Subscribers can sign up for monthly access to videos of marmots named Steple, Pozvount, and Cabinet, or make one-time donations. Revenue is split between the platform and the research team.
Student Emily Renki, who manages the account, said she often posts videos to delight viewers but that her favorite part is sharing educational content about animal behavior. The team has also partnered with Irwin Brewing Co. to release an ale called Marmot Tears.
