Doctor Olga Ulankina warned Russians in an interview with news outlet RIAMO about hidden dangers in smart toilets. She explained that failing to clean smart toilets properly can create bacterial communities that are difficult to remove.
Ulankina said a moist environment containing organic residue provides favorable conditions for bacteria to multiply. To prevent bacterial growth, she advised users to regularly clean the seat and all toilet surfaces, including the area around the nozzle.
She urged people to use cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer. If the model includes a self-cleaning system, users should ensure it remains in working order. Ulankina added that filters should be changed regularly if installed, the nozzle head monitored, and hands washed after every toilet visit.
Store payment terminals
Separately, microbiologist Jason Tetro previously named PIN pad buttons on store payment terminals as the dirtiest daily-used item posing the greatest danger.
