Hollywood actor Vin Diesel has praised the casting of Brazilian actress Jordana Brewster as his sister Mia Toretto in the Fast and Furious film series. Speaking in an interview with People magazine, the 59-year-old action star recalled the challenges of finding an actress who could convincingly play his sibling.
Diesel explained that as a multicultural actor, searching for someone to portray Toretto's sister was not a simple task. He said he finally found Brewster among the audition candidates, noting that she was a beautiful young Brazilian woman who shared a similar energy and vibe to his own.
Laughing during the interview, Diesel added that Brewster was so attractive that he believed her presence on screen made him look handsome as well.
Casting history and Hollywood debut
Brewster made her Hollywood feature film debut in the original 2001 car action movie as Mia Toretto, playing the love interest of Brian O'Conner. The character of O'Conner was portrayed by actor Paul Walker until his death in 2013. Prior to her breakout role in the action franchise, Brewster had worked in television, appearing on the American daytime soap opera All My Children in 1995. Although born in Panama, Brewster holds dual Brazilian and American nationality.
The Fast and Furious franchise, produced by Universal Pictures, began as a street racing thriller set in Los Angeles and expanded into one of the highest-grossing action series in global box office history. Diesel, born Mark Sinclair in California, has served as a central lead character and producer across the saga, which centers on themes of family loyalty and high-stakes vehicle heists. Brewster, the daughter of a Brazilian former fashion model, became a primary cast member throughout the long-running series.
Walker was a prominent co-star in the franchise alongside Diesel and Brewster. The series frequently highlighted the dynamic between Walker's character, a former law enforcement officer, and Diesel's street-racing crew chief.
Anniversary release and future sequel
The actor's comments come as the Fast and Furious franchise marks its 25th anniversary in 2026. To celebrate the quarter-century milestone, the original 2001 film will return to movie theaters in a remastered 4K Ultra HD format, featuring high-definition digital resolution. The theatrical re-release includes special screenings in cinemas across Brazil starting on November 25.
Looking ahead to the future of the series, the main storyline is scheduled to conclude with its 11th installment, titled Fast Forever, in 2028. The upcoming feature will follow the existing ten main films in the main continuity, excluding separate spin-off releases.
