Look at the eyebrows: this embarrassing aesthetic defect can be the sign of a serious illness

If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, the eyebrows are a kind of mirror of health. There is one serious symptom that you should not miss. It cannot be hidden, it must be treated.

Not all girls are satisfied with their eyebrows: many of us change them with tweezers or wax, by tinting them. And there is no danger if the original form is corrected. But if the eyebrows began to change suddenly, this can be an alarming sign.

Unexpected thinning of the eyebrows, especially the outer part (lateral third) is a common symptom of hypothyroidism, a thyroid disease in which the body cannot produce enough hormones.

Endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova recalls that such a disorder is called “Queen Anne syndrome” – named after the wife of the English king Jacob Stewart. She was diagnosed relatively recently, and “according to the userpic” – more precisely, according to the surviving portraits. It is noticed on them that the mature queen is actually missing half of her eyebrows, despite the fact that in previous portraits the eyebrows are in place.

Of course, such a change could turn out to be an artist’s whim or a fashionable tribute, but the fact remains that with hypothyroidism, the outer “tails” of the eyebrows fall out.

AND dermatologist Yulia Shcherbatova gives another example, which is much nearer and clearer than Queen Anne. According to Dr. Shcherbatova, singer Madonna suffers from hypothyroidism, and her photo on social media with thinned eyebrows and a swollen face is vivid proof of this.

In general, if you notice that your eyebrows are losing hair and new ones are not growing, this is a reason to contact an endocrinologist. Of course, hypothyroidism has other symptoms, including the already mentioned bloating, unreasonably depressed mood, drowsiness, snoring, joint problems. And the good news is that if detected early, the lack of thyroid hormones is quickly corrected with medication. And your eyebrows are growing back!
