Sam Neill: the Jurassic Park actor gives reassuring news about his health

Sam Neill with cancer

In an interview with The Guardian and released on Friday March 17, 2023, British and New Zealand actor Sam Neill, best known for his roles in Possession, The piano lesson AND Jurassic Park, made a statement that shocked his fans. In fact, he revealed that in March 2022 he was diagnosed with blood cancer – precisely an angioimmunoblastic T lymphoma -, while he was in full American promotion of Jurassic World: The World After. An unfortunate discovery that ranked among his motivations for writing in the months following his memoirs Did I ever tell you?

I’m not afraid to die. But that would bother me. Because I wish I had another decade or two, you know? We have built these beautiful terraces, we have olive trees and cypresses and I want to see them grow and I have my lovely grandchildren. I want to see them grow.

Sam Neill underwent chemotherapy treatment a few weeks after being diagnosed. A treatment that didn’t work at first, but the actor tried a new drug which so far seems to work.

“I’m not completely out of the woods yet, but there’s no cancer in my body”

As soon as the announcement of his illness was made in the columns of Keeper, the news went around the world. The actor was moved, but above all a little annoyed. In fact, in a video posted on Instagram the day after the publication of the interview, Sam Neill wanted to set the record straight and invite us to focus on the essential, which is alive and well and has a job !

My situation seems to be all over the news right now, and it’s “Cancer! Cancer! Cancer!”. Which is a bit of a stretch because, as you can see, I’m alive and well and have been in remission for eight months, which is a good feeling. I’m alive, fit and going to work, I’m very happy to be back to work. I start shooting in seven days, for this film called “Apples Never Fall” with Annette Bening and a great cast. That’s where I stand, and I wish the titles weren’t so much “that thing,” because the most important thing is that I wrote this book, which is called “Did I Ever Tell You?”
