Luke Besson charged with rape: Dismissal upheld on appeal in Sand Van Roy case

The Paris Court of Appeals upheld the release order of Luc Besson on rape charges.

In May 2018, actor Sand Van Roy filed a lawsuit against Luke Besson, accusing the director of rape and sexual assault.

Shortly after, after a confrontation between the two parties, the Paris prosecutor’s office dropped the case. We were then in February 2019. The court ruled “A substantiated crime cannot be characterized.”

The actor then filed a new complaint against the investigating judge and resumed the investigation. Two years later, in December 2021, a dismissal was announced in favor of Luke Besson. “Absence of any material element confirming the applicant’s statements.”

According to Sand Van Roy’s lawyer Me Antoine Gitton, this dismissal order is questionable:

“Luke Besson has never been confronted with material evidence that goes beyond him, such as a photo report made in a forensic unit on the day of the events, beatings and injuries to a civilian body that accuses him of rape. Thus and directly contradicts Luke Besson’s statements “Hammered before making a decision on the appeal.

The producer and director categorically denied these allegations, which led to a light, pleasant and mutually agreed-upon relationship. “I never physically or morally forced a woman to do anything”He reassured in October 2019.

The dismissal was confirmed on appeal

Today, May 24, 2022, the Paris Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal order issued in December last year. Le Figaro.

“The court has confirmed the innocence of my client. Ms. Van Roy’s dozen litigation initiatives have ended in the same way. Luke Besson regrets these four missing years.” Following the announcement of the hearing, his attorney, Thierry Marmert, said.

Appeal

I was immediately approached by Antoine Guyton, Sand Van Roy’s attorney (I along with Francis Spinner).

“It was a despicable story and it is a state affair that we are going to do. I did not see justice there, only the illusory law of small virtues. We promise to teach this little justice a lesson in virtues.”He said after being fired.

For his part, Luke Besson returned to work with the producer of the horror film Arthur Malédiction. He also filmed the romantic comedy Juni and Johnny before launching the DogMan feature film starring Keleb Landry Jones.
