Batman series: Mark Hamill returns to his casting for Joker

Released in 1992, Batman the animated series it’s a must-see segment for everyone dark knight fans. Created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, this series of 85 episodes aired between 1992 and 1995 on Fox Kids. Darker than it seems, it is also a series very faithful to the origins of the character and the more mature comics around Bruce Wayne. The show also allowed to develop Mr Freeze’s past and of create harley quinnlater incorporated into the comics.

It is therefore a series that made an entire generation of viewers dream, still considered today as a must-see. It was also marked by the presence of the great Mark Hamill in the voice cast. Indeed, the interpreter of Luke Skywalker was the voice of the Joker during the 85 episodes.

Mark Hamill reflects on his experience as the Joker

While Mark Hamill is obviously famous for his role as Luke Skywalker in the saga Star Warsanother of his cult characters is therefore the Joker of the series Batman. An emblematic voice that gave a very special flavor to Batman’s nemesis. During an interview with Movie Web, the actor returned to his experience on the series Batman. He was especially surprised that Fox agreed to give him the role:

At first I had my doubts. I didn’t think they were going to hire Luke Skywalker to play the Joker. I was like “the fans are going to lose their minds!” I was certain that I would not be chosen. Suddenly I felt completely relaxed. We often experience anxiety when we are casting or about to get a role. But here, I was so convinced I wasn’t going to have it, that I didn’t really care.

The actor then explained that the presence of Michael Keaton in Batman in Tim Burton’s films gave him a form of courage. He explains it Michael Keaton was an unlikely choice at the time, and that he suddenly began to believe that he too could appear in a production of Batman:

It really helped me. Michael Keaton in Batman was new, because he was a comedian. No one knew how big he would get. But it was a controversial choice at the time.

Ultimately, Mark Hamill was chosen to be the voice of the Joker in Batman the animated series. A courageous and above all very intelligent choice when you see/hear today’s excellent result! Mark Hamill invented a work that has since gone down in history. Proof with this little best-of below:
