Animations arrive in 2026 and adapt the classic comic book arc that redefined Batman in the 90s

The Dark Knight is about to face one of his biggest challenges on screen — and not just once. During the New York Comic ConDC announced that Batman: Fall of the Batone of the most iconic comic book sagas of the 90s, will be adapted into a series of four animated films.

The first part, titled Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall (Batman: Fall of the Bat Part Onein free translation), is scheduled to arrive in 2026. And with it, also comes the confirmation of the villain who will be at the center of the plot: Bane. Known for being the only enemy to literally break Batman — physically and psychologically — Bane will play a prominent role in this new adaptation, which promises to delve deep into the classic arc.

What to expect from the new adaptation?

The big question now is: Will the animation cover the entire saga or just the central events? In the comics, The Fall of the Bat goes far beyond the confrontation between Bane and Batman. After the defeat of brucewhoever assumes the mantle of the hero is Jean-Paul Valleythe Azraelwhose more aggressive version of Batman divides opinions to this day. The arc also includes the return of Bruce Wayne and spin-off stories, such as an epilogue centered on Dick Graysonalready acting as Nightwing.

For now, there is no official confirmation on how much of this material will be adapted in the four announced parts.

The new animation will not be part of the DC shared universe led by james gunnbeing classified as a story Elseworlds (or “outside official continuity”). Still, interest in the project shows that DC continues to bet heavily on Batman, with multiple projects underway, both in animation and live-action — including the future film The Brave and the Bold.
