Paul McCartney’s new book, ‘1964: The Eyes of the Storm’, gets a worldwide release this Tuesday (13)
In the year that marks the 60th anniversary of Beatlemania, Paul McCartney celebrates the launch of his new book 1964: The Eyes of the Stormreleased worldwide this Tuesday, June 13th.
The book brings an intimate and personal look at the first tour of the Beatles, which became one of the greatest phenomena in the history of music. The work shows the vision of Paul McCartney throughout the tour, telling about each of the six cities (Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington DC and Miami), where the musician recorded everything with his 35mm camera. In all, the book features 275 photos, most of them never seen before.

The work portrays the defining moments in the band’s career and recalls all the hysteria and frenzy in British concert halls and at the reception of the first passage of the boys from Liverpool to the United States.
“Thousands of eyes were suddenly on us, creating an image I will never forget.” – Paul McCartney

A Rolling Stone Brazil had exclusive access to one of the excerpts from the work, in which McCartney recounts his impressions of disembarking with the Beatles in New York – when they needed to make an “apparently desperate” escape. Check out the excerpt below:
“The chaos at that airport in February bordered on mass hysteria. Neither Liverpool nor London nor Paris did anything comparable happen. But the airport (formerly Idlewild, newly renamed Kennedy) was just the beginning. Crowds lined up. on the streets and highways to cheer us as our vehicle rolled slowly toward Manhattan, journalists and photographers followed us in cars and vans, fans crowding on both sides of the road, waving, as if we were triumphant athletes. in full Olympic lap. skyscrapers looming above the other buildings on West Fifty-Eight Street. There is something seemingly desperate about this need to flee or escape, as if we might end up trapped in a trap. But, come to think of it, it was these pursuits that put the Beatles in the eye of the storm . We were just starting to get used to that kind of awareness.”
